“And Dat’s da Truth…”
Many of you are probably to young to remember Laugh In… Not me – old ancient of days that I am! And one of my favorite characters was Edith Anne. She would sit in her big rocker and tell these amazing stories and then say “And dat’s da truth…”, ending it with giving everyone a great big raspberry. This begs me to ask a question: “How many ‘dat’s da truth’ have we believed that were straight up lies?” And…. “How many “real truths” have we not believed because we are still hanging onto the lies from our past? lies from the enemy of our soul? lies from labels that were carelessly and often cruelly applied?”
Ministering at Teen Challenge, one of the hardest things I have to do is to get people to get rid of the “old truths” (really lies) that they have believed for so many years; and start believing the “real truth” – firmly based on the absolute source of truth: SCRIPTURE! For example: So many come in believing they are too far gone – that there is no hope. When scripture teaches that ALL things are possible with God. Some believe their sin is too despicable. Jesus made it clear that no matter how great our sin, His blood was shed for it all! Our sins though they be as crimson, are made white as snow. Then there are those who think they are the perpetual “screw-up” – that they will never change. They need to hang on the scriptures that make it clear that if they confess their sins, God will cleanse them from ALL unrighteousness… and, if that wasn’t enough, they have the promise that God will complete the good work He has started in them – in all of us!
I don’t know if you have any Evil Edith Annes lurking in your thought life – telling you lies straight from the pit of Hell… If there is, combat those lies with the real truth – the truth from God’s holy word.
