“For Such A Time As This”
As I prayed about my blog today, God kept reminding me of the setting of scripture where we get the phrase, “for such a time as this”. Now, when I think of that phrase, of course, I always think of Queen Esther. God put Esther in the right place; at the right time; with the right skill set, to do what He wanted her to do. And what was that? He wanted her to be a tool in His plan to save His people, and that is just what He did. I can only imagine how confused Esther must have been when she was taken from her home… when she was thrown into an environment that was completely unlike she had ever experienced…. Can you imagine what she felt like when she was chosen queen… and then, can you imagine how she felt when she was asked to put her life on the line to save her people from an evil plan to have them destroyed? No, I can’t even fathom how she must have felt… but I do know what it feels like when God has called me to to things way beyond my comfort zone.
I am very comfortable in the street. I am comfortable ministering to the homeless and hurting; to those incarcerated; to my amazing students here at Teen Challenge. I am very comfortable and honored to be the Senior Pastor of our TC Connection Church. On the other hand, I am more stretched when God has me minister in situations that others may deem “normal”! I am not intimidated by what some might consider “dangerous” situations or in dealing with “intimidating” individuals. In fact, just recently I had the privilege of hanging out with bikers – I felt like I was in my element. Not too long ago I went to the “hood” to be with some out of control youth… And I could sit and visit with my friends at the river bottoms all day long. BUT, put me in the middle of main line society, I can get a little intimidated! I am not as bad as I used to be, but I used to get very unnerved in what I perceived as “high-society” situations. In fact, one time I was called to be the Keynote speaker for the National Day of Prayer. It was held at a country club. There were senators there; the mayor was there and so on… The cheapest car in the parking lot, besides mine, would probably have been a Beemer. So I tried to talk all sophisticated. I started using fifty cent words and cut out any of my off the wall humor. It was awful! I sounded fake; stiff and down right stuffy. Thankfully, the Lord got my attention and impressed on me to just be me. I stopped mid sentence and said… “I have a confession to make… this ain’t me! Sorry, but I am just a little ol’ country girl; ex-doper from Hilmar, California…” I then, being me, shared with them what the Lord had laid on my heart! What an amazing response I received. “For such a time as this…” God knew who was going to be there and God, not man, chose me to bring a word that day. So, what am I trying to get across…
I believe all of us will have “for such a time as this” moments in our lives. I believe God will put each of us in just the right place, at just the right time, to do His bidding. So, my admonition to each of us is: JUST DO IT! I need to tell my self: “PJ – just quit questioning God’s whys and wherefores, and just do, everyday, what He has called you to do!” If God calls us to do something He has his reasons…
- He knows you are just the right person for the situation. He wants to use you as a blessing and you will be blessed in the process.
- If he calls us to do anything, He has already equipped us and anointed us to do it. We need to learn to walk in the authority He has given us.
- We need to remember that if we shrink back from doing something because it is out of our comfort zone, we not only will be cheating ourselves out of a blessing – we will also be cheating others out of what God wanted to do through us. Not that God can and won’t use others, my friend, there is only one you!
- Esther was used to save an entire nation… If we are not willing to step out in faith, we will never know what God can use us for.
When is “such a time”? NOW! Now is the time to say, “Okay,God… I am willing. Don’t know how, but I am willing to be used for your glory. I’m not Esther, I’m just me, but I am willing to lay it all on the line to serve you and my fellow man.” #alltothegloryofGod
