God’ Promises Never Fail
I started my blog today with the title being: “God’s Promises Never fail”; yet, I have a picture with a sour looking lamb who has a question mark. How can that be? Let me explain… The problem isn’t with God, or that His promises fail. The problem is with us sheep. Sometimes we get baaaaaaaa-d attitudes when we have to wait for a promise to be fulfilled. Sometimes we even begin to question whether or not God even promised the promise or if God is willing to fulfill that promise for His little woolly, sometimes unbelieving, fearful lamb. Well, from one lamb to another – been there, done that! Feeling sheepish yet? I know I am. I think about how faithful God has always proven Himself; yet, how many times have I tortured myself with worry. I think of sleep lost; finger nails bitten; and unnecessarily emotional pain I have caused myself and others! When will I ever learn that God truly NEVER FAILS! God is ALWAYS on time! His way is always the BEST way! And that I am NOT to lean to my understanding. It is God who has the big picture – not me! And finally, it is not always about ME. There can be other people and factors involved in which God is using the situation for His purpose!
There is a song out with a line in it that says, “when you feel your life is falling apart, it is really falling into place.” I love the simple message in that song – a simple, yet very profound message. From God’s perspective, things are totally in control-He is putting all the pieces into place. Nothing catches Him off guard and He really does have a plan “working for the good of those called according to His purpose.” HIS PURPOSE! When we become Christians we are no longer our own, we are His. Our lives are to be completely surrendered to our Lord and to whatever He calls us to walk through. Even though we do not often understand the “whys and wherefores” of many situations, our peace comes through our faith in the One we are called to serve. I love what I Peter 5:7 says: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” God really does care for us! We are His prized possession; the apple of His eye; He made us joint heirs with Jesus Christ. He “fearfully and wonderfully” made us, and sent His Son to die for us. We don’t have to earn His love, we already have it! Amazing!
So, why do we worry? Why do we fret? The answer: because we are forgetful sheep. When we are in the midst of turmoil it is easy for us to get our eyes on the situation and off of the Lord. I don’t know about you, but I hate that! I hate it when I allow myself to be tormented by worrisome thoughts. So, my friend, how do we stop the madness? How do we stay at peace in the middle of the storms of life? There is an answer, and the answer comes as we encourage ourselves in the Lord and as we learn to guard our hearts. We only have consistent peace as our “eyes are stayed upon the Lord”. That sounds easy enough, huh? Not always… We have to challenge our thoughts; look through our spiritual eyes, not through the natural; we have to believe what God says, not what our flesh speaks or what our life circumstance seems to dictate. We must surround ourselves with other sheep who will encourage us to trust God; who will stand with us in prayer; and who will help us walk through any valley we have to walk through.
I don’t know about you, but this sheep thinks it is about time we look to the Good Shepherd for our needs to be met. There are a lot of wolves out there who will promise us just about anything: an easy way out; short cuts; fun in the fast lane… When in reality, those wolves just want to lure us into their lair to literally devour us! What we are usually left with if we run with the pack is nothing but death and destruction. As a Teen Challenge director, I daily see how people’s lives are ravaged. I see the pain and hopelessness in the lives of those who put their trust in the things this world has to offer. And the other thing I see daily, is that when a person puts his or her trust in God, how that God can and does heal every wound; brings hope to a hopeless situation; and proves Himself to truly be the God whose promises never fail.
As I close this out, I hope you can handle one more sheep reference: Just remember, no matter what you are going through; no matter where you have been or how many times you may have failed, God “woolly” does love you; “woolly” He does!
