“I grew up in a very dysfunctional family where both sides of the family were addicted to some kind of substance. I was in and out of foster care at a very young age. At age six I witnessed my mom overdose on heroin. My father was in and out of my life so I really did not know him. He was an alcoholic and a drug user. At age twelve I started hanging out with people who were older than me because I wanted to fit in and be accepted. The drugs temporarily numbed my feeling of pain, abandonment, and fear.
When my teenage years came my brother and his wife got custody of me. My life really changed for me from that point. He wanted nothing but the best for me, but I chose to rebel and do what I wanted to do. High school came around and I keep smoking weed all the time and living a life of destruction. My senior year I met a girl and we ended up having a daughter together, which scared me. I started selling drugs to make money and I smoked meth for the first time and I was instantly hooked on it. My family wanted nothing to do with me. My daughter’s mom hated the person I had become, so she asked me to leave.
With nothing left but to cry out to God and ask for help I came into Teen Challenge. This is where God through Christ has done things for me that nobody else could do. Jesus has broken so many chains that were holding me back from becoming who God wanted me to be. I am now attending the Teen Challenge Ministry Institute. I really want to further my life with Jesus and be of service to others. I give God all the glory, and I thank everyone for their prayers and support to give me a life I never knew was possible.”
