“My mother and father provided a very loving and secure home for all of us. The issue of weight came to my attention when I was in the fourth grade. My weight made me self-conscious as I had to shop for clothes that were plus size. Through my teens I tried to not let it bother me that all my friends were dating and going to school dances and I was not. It was not till I was in my early thirties that I met and married my husband. I had my one and only child, my daughter Jennifer.
I tried to be a good wife and mother, however, my marriage lacked the intimacy that a husband and wife should have. I did not understand why my husband was not attracted to me. I decided to have gastric-bypass surgery and lost one hundred and thirty-five pounds in a short time. However, my husband’s level of attention toward me did not change as I had hoped for. I had a hole inside of me that I was trying to fill.
At this point, The occasional glass of wine I used to have turned into drinking at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I ended up losing my job, my home, divorced my husband and became a person that none of my friends and family recognized. I tried several secular programs only leading me back to the bottle and a life of sadness. Then my father told me that I could not do this anymore. He had found a Christian program called Teen Challenge. I agreed to go and I was accepted into Teen Challenge.
Since going through the program my life has changed drastically. That hole I was trying to fill in nor filled with God’s love.My parents could not be happier and my daughter is beaming with joy that she has her mom back. I have a great new job and a wonderful home church. I am so grateful for everyone who has enabled me to have this new relationship with Jesus.”
