“I grew up in a Christian home. My parents did a wonderful job of showing us the love of Jesus. We went to church and had Bible studies at our home. But when I got into high school I decided I wanted to do thing my own way and began experimenting with drugs and alcohol. This behavior put me in a lot of traumatic situations. One night I was brutally attacked and ended up in the hospital. While at the hospital the police officer told me the incident was probably my fault, and I should be ashamed of myself. I took on that shame and guilt and began trying to cover up my feelings with anti-anxiety medication which I was over using and mixing with alcohol.
I began working in the fashion industry in San Diego and the party got a lot bigger. I began becoming someone I never thought I would be and doing things I never imagined I would do. I didn’t care about anything except numbing my feelings. One day I decided I had no hope and I could not do life anymore so I attempted suicide by overdose. I ended up in the hospital for a long stay and while there a friend called me and told me about Teen Challenge. She said it saved her life and she thought it could truly help not only save but change mine.
Two weeks later I came into the Teen Challenge program. I decided to turn to God for the first time. He has completely transformed my life. I now have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a new relationship with my family, and a hope for a real future. I am now going to school to help children with special needs so they can have the same hope for a future that I have. I want to thank everyone involved with Teen Challenge for providing me with this new life.”
