“I grew up in a dysfunctional family. My mom and dad were drug addicts. By the time I was nine, my parents were divorced and my dad and siblings had moved out. I remember being home alone all the time while my mom was working and partying late at night.
I had always done well in school, but halfway through my freshman year I realized that no one cared, and what was worse, I realized I did not care anymore either. At fifteen years of age, I dropped out of my honors classes, quit sports, and started drinking. The rest of high school was a blur.
I got a job, house, car, and fiancée. But I ended up losing it all and my health was starting to fail as well. I ended up back home with my mom and stepdad at twenty-seven years old. Soon after I realized I was having a baby. After my daughter was born, I could not even straighten up and function enough to be a mommy and give my little girl the love she deserved. When she was eight months old I signed over guardianship to my parents. I lost myself even more in alcohol.
All of a sudden I was thirty-four years old, alone and in the hospital every month. I had heard about Teen Challenge on the radio for months. But, one day I had had enough and I called. On January 7th, 2015 God answered that prayer and I entered through the doors of Teen Challenge. I was instantly delivered from alcohol with no withdrawals and no desire to drink. Since being in Teen Challenge I have made friends that will last a lifetime, my family has been restored to me including my daughter. I now turn to God to cope with personal issues, stress, anger, sadness and loneliness instead of alcohol. I now know that I have a great future and I am truly loved. My sincere thank you goes out to everyone who has prayed for me and sponsored me through the Teen Challenge program.”
