Ummmmm……. Dinner Time With The Devil
As I was driving in this morning, I got to thinking about ALL the wildlife in the hills around my home. I absolutely love where I live. I love that I live in a community that literally butts up against nature. On the hills surrounding my house we have deer; wild pigs; wild turkeys and the such. Of course, with all that fresh meat available, we have mountain lions and bob cats as well. The cats silently wait for any opportunity to snag their favorite cuisine. I got to thinking. If I were a cat, who would I go after? I would probably go after a deer that was lame; a pig that was wandering off by itself and maybe a turkey whose wing was broken. In other words, go after any prey that gave me an opportunity to easily overpower them. And that is just what the Devil, the enemy of our souls does. He waits, and time is definitely on his side; he watches; he sets his deceptive traps; and pounces on any Christian who gives him opportunity. He especially goes after the wounded, those Christians who have been wounded while walking out their Christian walk.
On the outside, many Christians seem “fine”. And on the inside that is probably true for a lot of us: “Fouled up; Insecure; Neurotic; and Emotional = FINE” In other words, we say we are fine, when in reality we are in need of help. The wounds which make us spiritually lame, or broken; and that may cause us to walk away from the fold cannot always be seen by the naked eye. They are hurts we have not dealt with, keeping us from the fellowship we so desperately need. They are temptations we are not bringing to light due to shame and quilt. They are the “busy-ness” of this life which causes us to not spend time with our Lord. All these “things” set us up to be the main course on the Devil’s table of despair and destruction! He is a real foe! He really does go around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour! And, his favorite menu item is any unaware Christian. Any Christian not paying attention can fall into one of his traps! I don’t know about you, but I want to sit at the Lord’s table. I don’t want to be a main course for anyone-much less a foe who wants me dead! So, how, how do I stay out of the snares of the Enemy? The answer is really quite simple: I MUST STAY CLOSE TO MY LORD! If I have a hurt: I need to deal with it scripturally – working it through to forgiveness. If I am being tempted – I need to seek help from the Lord and the body of Christ. Accountability is a must for every Believer! If my life is too busy: re-prioritize! God first; family second and everything else after that. It really is okay to say “NO!” The Holy Spirit is our source of strength – where we get our spiritual power. If we don’t spend time in prayer and in the Word – we become easy pick ins! And one last thing, if we see a brother or sister headed down a path that leads to the Devil’s lair, after we get the beam out of our own eye, we need to be those who sounds the alarm! True Christian love does not allow anyone to walk off a cliff without doing all he or she can to warn of the up coming danger.
It’s almost lunch time. I know what I am having for lunch and am looking forward to my meal. It is my hope and prayer that as the Enemy prepares his table, no unsuspecting Christian will be on his menu. Just food for thought…. #stayingalertmeansstayingalive
