Who Is That Old Lady, And Why Is She Looking Back At Me?
Last week I went to our “District Council”. This is where the ministers in our district meet; vote; take care of business and have much needed fellowship. I looked around at all my fellow ministers and noticed that I had moved up in rank… I am no longer one of the “young pups”. I have moved into the older guard. I was no longer looking at others with grey hair – I was one of those with grey hair. I had to ask myself: “Where has the time gone?” I can’t believe I actually started in ministry close to four decades ago! I don’t know, none of us do, how long the Lord will give any of us here on earth – BUT one thing I do know – TIME WAITS ON NO ONE and that time is definitely NOT on our side!
There was a song a number of years ago that said, “Tomorrow, who promised you tomorrow, serve the Lord today.” There is a lot of truth in that statement, and none of us can afford to waste any of the time God gives us! It is so easy to put things off to tomorrow, only to see that we never get around to the things we put off. It is so easy for all the “stuff” that seems so urgent to get in the way of our God given goals. I say it often, and believe it with all the fabric of my being: One of the biggest weapons in the Enemy’s arsenal is DISTRACTION!!! If he can get us to give into the tyranny of the urgent; get us chasing the monkeys in someone elses circus; get us so wrapped up in the day to day that we don’t get at the Lord’s business – he has won a huge victory! And before we know it, we are ancient of days, ready to meet our Maker – with nothing to lay at the Lord’s feet. The Lord doesn’t care about my big promotion at work; my big car or house. He doesn’t care about where I have traveled or what leisure activities I have experienced. He cares about my personal relationship with Him; and out of that relationship, He cares about me completing what He created me to do. I am not to compare myself with someone else. God did not call me to be the next… whoever. He called me to be the best me He has created me to be. He called me for a specific purpose, and I am to be at it! And guess what? He expects the same for ALL who name the name of Jesus. Tomorrow, tomorrow never comes! So I best be at it today. My friend, today is the day – we can’t wait until tomorrow! Tomorrow is promised to no one and we WILL be accountable for how we live today!!! #livingforJesus-today!
