Who Me? You Talking To Me?
It is my hope that my blog today will speak to all of us… I know I was especially talking to me…
Today is normally a very, very busy day for me. I am usually up and at the Church/Teen Challenge center by six a.m. Due to others covering; the fact I hadn’t had a day off; and the blessing of an awesome speaker – who is one of my best friends, I don’t need to be in until midafternoon. The “Old PJ” would have to be there; would have to trudge through – even though the effort wasn’t really needed. And why, why would I do that? The reason is simple: I still don’t take care of myself the way I should and, at times get my “worth” from what I do, instead of in who I am in Christ. To take it further… why do I respond that way? The answer is, I still don’t place the value on myself that I should. To be frank, I still struggle with seeing myself as Christ sees me. God has done incredible healing in my life, and has brought about astonishing changes throughout the years…. BUT… if I am not careful, I still believe the negative lies from my past; the verbal barrage of labels given to a troubled youth; and the guilty charges from a mind that hangs onto failures and quickly let’s go of any success.
Sound familiar? I think many of us are haunted by lying voices that can only be countered by the surety of God’s love and the truth of God’s Holy Word! In order for these voices to be vanquished, we need to consciously come against them. As scripture says, we need to be ever “vigilant”. And as I said, these are things I still deal with. So, what about our new baby Christians, like our precious Teen Challenge students? Can you imagine the “strongholds” or “lies” that they have to battle? So what does that say to us? Scripture teaches that we are to encourage each other. I feel we could work full time just encouraging those around us. We could work 24/7 “spurring” others onto good works. When we see someone struggling, instead of passing judgement or shaking our heads in amazement, let us be those who LIFT UP, those who STRENGTHEN; those who COME ALONG SIDE! And one last thing, let us be those who practice what we preach and do the same for ourselves. We need to remember, we too, are precious in the sight of our loving Heavenly Father.
