Win, Win…. Not a Chance…. Yet It happened!
Do you ever feel like you are living out that cartoon: “Heads I win, tails you lose”, and you are the one on the losing side? A number of years ago something very unfortunate happened in my family. What went on caused incredible pain and division. In my limited vision, I could not see how relationships could be restored; how everyone could come out feeling heard, and that their interests were taken into consideration. Fast forward… enter God… God, yes God… because only God could make a horrific situation into a blessing for all concerned! God turned a lose, lose, into a win, win! I had the incredible privilege of seeing ALL relationships restored and then some. Each member grew spiritually, emotionally and in how they deal with their relationships. Each member had a deeper understanding of what it means to truly be “family”, and what it means to trust in God – knowing it is only He who controls each man’s future. I am so glad no one gave up – that no one chose to walk away – that no one said the final “no” to relationship! I firmly believe as long as there is breath in the body, there is hope. I also believe as long as people choose to keep doors open; choose to walk in forgiveness; choose “God’s” way – THERE IS HOPE for any relationship. (That does not mean you don’t keep healthy boundaries-another subject for another time.)
Everyday at Teen Challenge we see people whose lives have been so destroyed, they, in their wildest dreams, cannot see themselves as winners. These precious ones cannot see how God can restore them, much less all the broken relationships in their lives. Yet God, through His amazing power, turns what the world would call “losers” into “winners”. He restores families that have been torn apart by years of substance abuse and all the devastation that nightmare wreaks in their lives. He turns those without hope, into those with hope; those who have lived in the valley of despair for years, into those who now climb the peaks of success; those who cannot handle life’s trials, into those who see they can do all things through Christ who gives them strength. We sing about how Great is our God! My challenge to all of us: Start living our lives like we really believe it! NEVER, NEVER give up! NEVER, NEVER choose the world’s way of dealing with things over God’s way. And, one last thing: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give up on yourself! The same forgiveness we extend to others is to be extended to ourselves. As I prepare for morning worship, I am going to have our leaders sing “Our God is an Awesome God”. Today, as I proclaim that truth, I am going to challenge myself to step out in faith and live my life like I actually believe in what I am singing.
It is my prayer this morning that this little blog encourages you. It is my prayer that if anyone is feeling there is no hope – that you will see there is hope. It is my prayer this writing finds you surrounded by those who will encourage you and who will breath life into you. Sometimes it is easier for us to see hope and forgiveness for others – extend that same hope and forgiveness for yourself and allow God to make what seemed like a “lose, lose”, into a “win, win”! Our God works out ALL things for GOOD, for HIS Purpose! #God’sgotit!
