“My name is Ashley. I grew up in a loving family. But I met my boyfriend, Danny, when I was seventeen. We partied, drank, and used meth together. I was in the process of starting community college when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, so I put school on hold. I could not have been any happier when Lola was born. I did not drink much for the first year after she was born, I was just happy being her mom.
In December 2005, Danny and I were married. We loved each other very much but our relationship never had a good foundation. We stopped doing drugs but alcohol was still a big part of our lives. When Lola was five we began doing meth regularly again and life went downhill quickly after that. My husband became abusive both physically and verbally. I knew I had to do something, so I left him and went to live with my parents. Danny and I decided to try and work things out, but a few weeks later he beat me so badly I could have died. My mom took me to the emergency room where they told me I had a concussion and skull fractures. I filed for divorce the next day.
After that my life revolved around alcohol. I left my beautiful daughter with my parents and tried to drink myself to death. I agreed to sign over guardianship of my daughter to my parents because I knew the condition I was in was not good for her. I did not know why I was alive. I had nowhere to go as my family wanted nothing to do with me.
But my grandma found Teen Challenge for me. Since being in the program I realized God has always been with me. I have learned to see myself the way Jesus has always seen me. My relationships are being restored. I have been a staff member now for almost two years and I am now serving at the Happy Valley Women and Children’s center. I get the privilege every day to see firsthand womens’ lives being changed the way mine was. I am eternally grateful to everyone who has prayed for us and supported this ministry.”
