My mom was a teenager when she had me and was addicted to heroin. My dad was an older man who was also an addict. At an early age, I was removed from my mom’s care and placed with my grandma to live. While living with my grandma my innocence was taken by people in the home. I was removed from my grandmother’s care and placed in a foster family who would later become my adoptive parents. While living in this home my innocence was taken by an older brother in the home. My parents did not believe the abuse was happening so they sent me to a woman who supposedly specialized in children that had issues. While living with her I was physically and emotionally abused. The truth about the situation eventually came out. My parents quit sending me to that woman and the brother was removed from the home. Around the same time, my younger sister passed away after a painful battle with cancer and my biological dad was murdered behind a drug deal.
My adoptive parents loved me, but they were very strict. Their religious legalism made me bitter towards God. Because I felt so trapped, in 2006, I enlisted in the Marine Corps. It was the first time I had any type of freedom and I went wild. I became very promiscuous and started drinking heavily. I continued in this lifestyle for six years.
After I was discharged from the Marines, I began using drugs and became very involved in the rave culture. In 2015, my six-year relationship with my boyfriend ended because of my addiction. I had lost the most important person in my life, and I completely gave up. I got my third DUI and got into a car accident that should have killed me. At that point, I realized I needed help and reached out to my family. My aunt told me about Teen Challenge.
Coming into Teen Challenge was the best decision I have ever made. I have learned to have a deep relationship with Jesus. I now know that He loves me regardless of my past and the mistakes I have made. Jesus is my best friend, my Savior, and the support I need to be successful in life. My relationship with my family has been completely restored. Because of God using Teen Challenge, I now have a hope for the future. I am so grateful to everyone involved in Teen Challenge, who provided me with this amazing opportunity.”
