”When I entered Teen Challenge, I was emotionally and spiritually broken. I was on my third marriage separation. I was an alcoholic and addict for seventeen years, however, putting away the drink and the drugs was only the beginning. What was missing all those years was a personal relationship with God.
I was raised by supportive and loving Christian parents. But I never had a personal relationship with the Lord. I started smoking weed and drinking alcohol in my freshman year of high school. This went on through high school and my tour in the Navy. My life had begun a steady downhill ride, but I did manage to exit the military with an honorable discharge.
I moved to Sacramento after the Navy. I managed to get my fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh drunk driving charges and started my trips to the county jails. Even with the birth of my daughter, Jenelle, I could not stop drinking. In spite of my destructive lifestyle I did get custody of Jenelle when she was only three years old. This was only possible with the help of my mom, dad, and God. Had it not been for them, Jenelle would surely have fallen through the “cracks” of “the system.”
I was given the number to Teen Challenge and gave them a call. That decision has been my best one thus far! I have a relationship with Jesus and I am being taught that there are no failures, only lessons to grow by. Later in the program I served as a Student Leader, where I could help the younger brothers in the center. I now have a great job and am planted in an amazing church. My sincere ‘thank you’ to my Teen Challenge family to whom I owe so much.”
