My name is Tara Hernandez. In the beginning of March 2015 I decided to try and volunteer at Twin Rivers Crisis Center in Yuba City as part of my requirement for a certificate in drug and alcohol counseling. Having been through another program myself, I really knew very little about Teen Challenge. I was offered several alternative volunteer gigs, but chose to pursue Teen Challenge out of curiosity as well as a spiritual need. I suddenly felt a strong calling on my heart which truly directed me towards the Crisis Center doors.
I began by meeting each and every one of the facility’s students and staff. After only a few days I could feel the presence of God in this place. The staff are all very kind, loving biblical women who are genuine in their beliefs. They are full of compassion and discernment in the positions they are filling. I was quite blown away by the huge amount of faith and prayer that goes into running this center daily. I was surprised to later learn the Teen Challenge program is international and I have since been equally humbled and inspired by the book, The Cross and the Switchblade that tells of the program’s beginning.
The program has an extremely high success rate and I am very happy that I have been able to become a small part of this effort and ministry. I am blessed for being able to help this ministry and am more than happy to be here serving the Lord and helping other women and families receive the help and guidance they need. In my personal life I have had an incredible spiritual revival which was exactly what the Lord had in mind when he called me to service. I am blessed to have been given an opportunity to help others who are in desperate need!
